the fighting irish

March 17, 2019

I knew this weekend would be difficult. This guy right here though... he was amazing and the baddest Irish fighting (sometimes asshole) bad ass I have ever known.

We married in Oct 2001 - our first party Married was in March- and since we both grew up celebrating our heritage and enjoying this very day we carried it through to the life we built together and loved by throwing an annual St Paddy’s Party.

There was probably only 2 of those years together that we were not able to throw our party. It was the only party we had for the year and we looked forward to being with friends, toasting, eating good food, singing (sometimes dancing) and listening to the bag piper.

Last year was one of those two years we missed our party and it showed us that you were truly fighting the fight and it was not going to get any easier.

I so wished this year we would be celebrating and toasting to better health and you turning the corner. But unfortunately it is not the case.

I did not want to go out this weekend, but good friends rallied around and pulled me together both Friday and Saturday, even parade weekend and we found comfort and laughs, some in your honor as well & also found new ways to celebrate this day.

You would think we would start to hate this holiday as we found out on 3/11/2015 that we needed to go to MSK and figure out this diagnosis. We had a party a couple days later and then headed to MSK to learn what was to come next on St Patrick’s Day. But we took it as a sign that being an Irish fighter was your fate. Giving up our party was not an option but it was our duty to keep having

So, last night I wore these very tat sleeves to the party and the boys had on something of yours as well.

You have shown us all what a true fighter looks like and I will always toast to you this day and all our days, it may not be at our house but it will be in your honor.

*this year(2022), I'm thinking of bringing our tradition back - it might be time for me to host again!*
